On July 20, 2012, my sweet baby boy Jackson was born.
The first 3 days in the hospital were perfect and everyone commented on how quiet and content he was. Well, all of that "quiet and content-ness" came to screeching halt at the age of 4 days old!
I knew that babies cried and had even heard of colic but this was like nothing I knew of. For what I thought was no reason, my son was arching and screaming inconsolably. We tried everything for over 3 hours and finally called our pediatricians office. They said that 3 hours was a long time to scream non-stop and that we had better head to the emergency room....thank goodness we didn't end up going that route.
This continued every night for a while and I would just brace myself laying on the couch to endure the "scream-fest" with my son on my chest. I would sing out loud so I had something to focus on besides his crying which I couldn't fix, and that was the hardest part for me.
His pediatrician finally said maybe it was reflux and gave us Axid. It didn't do much. Then we did finally get a script for Prevacid and I crammed the little, annoying beads down his throat the best I could. After that we tried the compounded Prevacid but it seemed to be good for a few days and then not very effective. But since my son was gaining weight (he had silent reflux so he didn't spit enough out to make him lose weight), the pediatrician wasn't concerned and basically said there wasn't much else they could do...15mg of Prevacid was as high as they could go.
Then we saw a feeding therapist because my son was developing feeding aversions. She made a call and got us in to see a GI right away. About a month later, he went under anesthesia to have an upper endoscopy but that seemed to look okay. The GI wanted to give us Reglan but I won't even mention some of the horrible side effects of that medicine!
To make a long story short, I ran across the mention of "Choco-base" online as I researched...as I looked for more information I eventually came to find CaraCream. It became an absolute dream come true. It made my son's medicine taste great and most importantly, WORK BETTER! I didn't have to time his medications around his feeds (which is a very hard thing to do, especially with a small infant) or fight to get it down him. Infant Acid Reflux Solutions took over where Choco-base and CaraCream left off by recommending TCMax and BellyBuffers.
He is now a happy 2 year-old boy who likes to eat. He does get occasional hiccups or will reflux to where I can hear it or he gets choked up, but it is not painful or upsetting to him. We have been using this line of products for almost 2 years now.
I cannot imagine our lives without it!
