Poor Robyn's story starts like that of many reflux babies. Spit up, diarrhea, food intolerance.
It came to a head when she got RSV. She wouldn't eat and was hospitalized for respiratory distress and dehydration. She went several days without nursing and ended up needing an NG tube for feeding. Anytime you tried to force feed her she would choke.
We were discharged home after a week... But she was still not eating right. Every meal was a battle. At one point we gave up breastfeeding altogether. I pumped and she took bottle while I cried from frustration. I didn't understand how after successfully breastfeeding two other children, that I was having such a hard time with her. Then she began to refuse the bottles too. We tried syringes and nothing was working. We were ready to go to the doctor and ask for an NG tube.
Finally I put 2 and 2 together. The wet voice during feeding attempts, the weird cough, the total feeding refusal. I was researching the symptoms, and though they were different than with my other kids.. She too had reflux!! With my son we opened capsules and timed doses as he didn't tolerate the ordered suspensions. I was excited this time that I was able to find something a little easier to administer.
It took some trial and error and support from the staff as well as an understanding doctor who wanted my baby to eat, before we started seeing results.
She eats now!
Happily at the breast, and I savor each time because we were so close to giving up. Her growth took off and she started meeting milestones. Her diarrhea eased considerably. She greets the dropper at med time with a smile because she actually likes her medicine. I'm appreciative that the dosing research is available to parents who truly need it.
TCMax and the support of this practice and Dr Prince has really been a godsend for us.
Comments for TCM saved our nursing relationship.
