Expert offers tips to avoid PPI failure in children with reflux
ORLANDO -- Avoid proton pump inhibitor failure in children with gastroesophageal reflux by treating longer and increasing the dose, Dr. Eric Hassall said at the annual meeting of the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition.
Two PPI studies in children--one with omeprazole and another with lansoprazole--suggest that most PPI failures in children are caused by inadequate dosing (J. Pediatr. 2000; 137: 800-7; J. Pediatr. Gastroenterol. Nutr. 2002; 35: 308-18).
